PROVOCATION, POLITICS, PEOPLE POWER – POLITICISING PRIDE IN LONDON 2016.
A sharing and planning session, including short ‘queer activism’ films.
Thursday 14th April, 6-9pm at Positive East,159 Mile End Road, Stepney Green, London E1 4AQ – Facebook Event Page Click Here – Please email with RSVP’s and any questions – firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are nearing Pride season and this year ACT UP London, along with fellow activists, will host and publicise a series of thought-provoking talks, creative events and workshops.
We are inviting individuals and groups to work with us to help build a programme that is not anchored in commercialisation and big business, but instead has its roots in an impressive history of freedom fighting. Over the next few months, with activist colleagues, we will be working at creating a richly cultural, genuinely representational, and politically challenging programme of events, led from queer safe spaces throughout the city of London (and hopefully further afield). We would love for you and your affiliated group to join us.
If this idea resonates with you, please attend the initial planning session to share ideas on how to map out issues we mutually care strongly about, in relation to LGBTQIA+ equality. Lets also discuss what our concerns and focuses are in relation to the Pride demonstration/march happening on June 25th 2016. See what happened last year here ‘Has the LGBT movement been hijacked by big business?’
Points to consider:
- What do I/ my group/ my movement want?
- What do we want from other groups?
- What backup can we give each other to support autonomous projects?
- What do we want to do as a much larger collective – challenge, create?
- How can we best advise others about our campaigns?
If your group would like to discuss your key priorities and how we can give continued activist support to your initiatives while creating this politicised Pride programme, please get in touch and let us know how you would like to lead, support and join on building an alternative Pride programme together.
